The currency of Ethereum is called Ether (ETH). Its smallest denomination is called Wei. 10^18 Wei are 1 ETH. (10^18 = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000).

Ethers are used as means of payment for services or goods (outside the blockchain). But they are also important to pay the network transaction fees. Ether can be controlled (sent) by users or smart contracts.
