Lesson 6 – Sending and Receiving Bitcoin

Published by Mario Oettler on

In this lesson, you will learn how to send and receive Bitcoin.

First, we need to select a wallet. Here, we use Electrum, to get acquainted with the Bitcoin network. Electrum is a non-custodial desktop wallet and it has a nice feature: It supports the Bitcoin testnet.

The testnet is like the real Bitcoin network just for testing purposes. You can get test Bitcoin for free from so-called faucets. And with these test Bitcoin, you can play around as much as you like without risking losing actual money.

Electrum, of course, supports the Bitcoin mainnet too. The mainnet is the productive network where real (valuable) Bitcoin are sent.
